Explore possibilities with woven structures to create depth, gaps, sculptural and three-dimensional effects.
Together we will work with methods to experiment in the loom: testing different weft materials, densities and exchanging warp threads in order to create a variety of expressions and textures.
During the week we will:
- Explore texture, surface and tactile qualities
- Try techniques that make three-dimensional effects
- Work with long floating threads, gaps and spaces
- Test a variety of weft materials, such as paper yarn, over-spun yarns, metals, heavy/lightweight materials etc.
- Discuss the techniques and materials we’re using and reflect upon our results
- Look at washing processes for changing or enhancing texture and structure
Matilda will also give inspirational talks on the artistic work that she does with three-dimensional and sculptural weave. You will be making a range of different samples in a variety of qualities during the week. The samples and methods used can then be further developed in your own projects.
Matilda Dominique works with textile art, using weaving as a tool to create sculptural and spatial objects.
