Matilda Dominique (matildadominique.com) is educated at the Swedish School of Textiles, University of Borås, and at the University of Arts, Crafts and Design in Stockholm (Konstfack) as well as studying weaving and textile design in Melbourne, Australia. Her specialty is the material and manufacturing processes, manual and industrial, with her focus being on weaving. Recently she has been working with a research project in Germany where they studied woven structures in architecture and building construction.
“I considered Sätergläntan and the job as a teacher of weaving because I think that weaving is fun while at the same time an important craft,” says Matilda. “I had already done a summer course at Sätergläntan and appreciate the rich knowledge of crafts and cultural history that is being passed on and developed through the education programmes. I think it is very exciting to be a part of the work that is being done at Sätergläntan.”
Renée Rudebrant, principal and CEO, adds: “Matilda has a unique experience in weaving and how you can work with it and new textile materials. The combination of her foundation in textiles and her knowledge and skills in craft, architecture and industry will enrich our education. Att ha en förståelse för äldre tekniker och bindningar samtidigt som man har kunskap om dagens nya material och se andra användningsområden är något som passar bra in med Sätergläntans profil som institut för slöjd och hantverk.”
Matilda assumes her position as one of two head teachers in weaving at Sätergläntan’s education programme Arts and Crafts – Form and Culture 1-3 years from the start of autumn term 2015.
